Allotey Jacobs Threatens Legal Action Over “Defamatory Lies” by Onua TV’s Captain Smart

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, a prominent political figure and former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stern warning to Onua FM and Onua TV, threatening legal action over what he describes as “defamatory lies” broadcast by the station’s popular morning show host, Captain Smart.

In a letter addressed to the management of the Onua media brand, Mr. Jacobs’ legal team expressed his firm stance on the matter, asserting that the statements made on December 11, 2024, were false, damaging, and intended to tarnish his hard-earned reputation.

The allegations aired during the broadcast include claims that Mr. Jacobs:

  1. Maintains a romantic relationship with an individual residing near Christ the King Church and has purchased vehicles for young women.
  2. Misappropriated $5 million intended for New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators, allegedly using the funds to facilitate the illicit trade of marijuana and cocaine at his hotel.
  3. Operates a hotel in Cape Coast where illegal substances, including marijuana and cocaine, are purportedly sold, with claims that he is aware of these activities but prioritises financial gain over the well-being of young individuals.

According to Mr. Jacobs’ legal representatives, the allegations are “clearly untrue” and have caused significant harm to his reputation, businesses, and livelihood. The letter also highlighted the extensive dissemination of these claims across various social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and www.onuaonline.com, amplifying the damage.

Mr. Jacobs is demanding:

  • A formal retraction and apology within eight hours of receiving the letter, to be given the same level of publicity as the original broadcast.
  • A clear statement confirming that the allegations were entirely false and unfounded.
  • The immediate deletion of the defamatory content from all digital platforms associated with the Onua brand.

Failure to meet these demands, the letter warns, will result in Mr. Jacobs exercising his full legal rights to seek redress.
