'Walk The Gospel, Not Just Talk It'- Elder Micheal Fosu
Christians have been challenged to move beyond mere confession of faith and begin to demonstrate the gospel through their daily lives, as Elder Michael Fosu of the Church of Pentecost, Upper Room Assembly, delivered a passionate sermon on the essence of the “new life” in Christ.
Speaking during Gospel Sunday at the Mpoasei District in the Dansoman Area, Elder Fosu stressed that the true measure of Christianity is not found in words, titles or religious activity, but in transformed living.
“Many of us are speaking the gospel, but we are not walking it,” he said, drawing a sharp contrast between professed faith and lived reality.
According to him, the moment an individual accepts Jesus Christ, a spiritual transformation occurs instantly—one that replaces the old identity with a completely new one. However, he warned that failure to reflect this transformation in behaviour calls into question the authenticity of one’s faith.
Referencing the Bible, he explained that the “new creation” described in 2 Corinthians 5:17 is not symbolic but practical, demanding visible change.
“If the old life is truly gone, then hatred, envy, arrogance and selfishness must go with it,” he emphasised.
Elder Fosu painted a vivid picture of what he described as the “danger of unchanged Christianity", noting that many believers continue to exhibit destructive traits such as anger, gossip, bitterness and moral compromise, despite professing to have received Christ.
“That is not the new life. That is the old life still speaking,” he cautioned.
He urged congregants to become deliberate in living out their faith, insisting that Christianity must be evident in homes, workplaces and social spaces.
“In your house, people must see joy. In your office, they must see integrity. In your community, they must see love. That is the gospel in action,” he said.
The seasoned church elder further challenged believers to recognise the urgency of evangelism, describing the message of salvation as a priceless gift that must not be withheld.
“What we carry is more valuable than silver or gold. It is life—God’s life in Christ,” he declared.
He reminded the church that the responsibility of spreading the gospel lies with every believer, not just church leaders, calling for a united and intentional effort to reach lost souls.
“The whole church must rise. This is not a pastor’s assignment; it is a believer’s mandate,” he stressed.
Elder Fosu also underscored the need for strategy and preparation in evangelism, noting that effective outreach requires planning, clarity and purpose.
“Souls are too important for us to be casual. We must know what we are saying, who we are reaching, and how we are reaching them,” he said.
In a passionate closing, he warned against spiritual complacency, describing the world as a battlefield where lives are constantly being influenced and, in some cases, lost.
“The time to act is now. While we sleep, souls are perishing,” he said.
He called on Christians to rise with urgency, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to live and spread the message of Christ boldly.
“If all you can say to someone is ‘Jesus loves you,’ say it but don’t keep quiet. You are a carrier of life,” he concluded.
