Girls-In-ICT Beneficiaries Gain Industry Experience at ATC Ghana
Beneficiaries of the 2025 Girls-In-ICT programme visited ATC Ghana in Accra on the 8th of September 2026 as part of activities for the ongoing Girls-In-ICT Open Day, gaining firsthand exposure to the operations of the telecommunications infrastructure company and the diverse opportunities within the technology sector.
The visit formed part of efforts to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, providing the young girls with practical insights into how technology companies operate and contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation.
Upon arrival, the beneficiaries were taken on a tour of the ATC Ghana facility, where they were introduced to the various departments and sectors of the company and educated on their respective roles in supporting telecommunications infrastructure and digital connectivity.
As part of the day’s activities, the girls were divided into groups of ten and assigned innovative technology projects designed to test their creativity, critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
The projects focused on finding practical solutions to everyday challenges through technology and artificial intelligence. Some of the topics included the development of a smart liquid level assistant for visually impaired persons using AI, a human piano using Makey Makey, and a project exploring how to teach machines to understand humans using artificial intelligence.
Other groups were tasked with developing innovative concepts such as a Rubik’s Cube solver, aimed at promoting analytical and critical thinking skills; an automated crane system for warehouses and factories; and a colour sorter capable of autonomously sorting seeds and fruits based on quality and ripeness.
Participants also explored technological solutions for warehouse management and goods sorting, while another group was tasked with using Python to develop a budget tracker and chatbot.
The practical project sessions provided the girls with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through the Girls-In-ICT programme while working collaboratively to develop innovative solutions.
The visit to ATC Ghana is expected to further inspire the beneficiaries to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), as well as emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, software development and automation.
The Girls-In-ICT Open Day continues to provide young girls with opportunities for mentorship, industry exposure and hands-on learning, empowering them to become creators, innovators and leaders in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
