National Mentoring Day 2026: Ghana Launches Drive to Empower One Million Youth and Startups Through Mentorship
Ghana is set to mark National Mentoring Day 2026 with a renewed call for intentional mentorship, leadership development and service as key tools for shaping the next generation of African leaders.
The celebration, which forms part of National Mentoring Month, will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, through a virtual conference on Zoom, bringing together policymakers, educators, entrepreneurs, mentors and young professionals to highlight the transformative power of mentorship.
The event, themed “Mentorship, Leadership, and Service: Shaping the Next Generation of African Leaders", seeks to encourage individuals and organisations to invest in developing future leaders through knowledge sharing, guidance and support.
Since its launch in 2018, National Mentoring Day has grown into a nationwide movement, directly impacting more than 1,000 individuals and businesses and reaching over 5,000 others through school and regional mentorship programmes across Ghana.
This year’s celebration will be expanded through the MentorXi platform, an innovative mentorship system that uses smart algorithms to connect mentors and mentees based on career goals, aspirations and professional vision.
The initiative aims to empower one million young people and business startups by 2030 through structured and accessible mentorship opportunities.
Convener of National Mentoring Day, Mr Atsu Geraldo de Lima, said the celebration serves as a reminder that Africa’s future depends on the quality of leaders being nurtured today.
He explained that the conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to recommit to mentorship as a bridge between talent and impact.
“National Mentoring Day is a reminder that the future of Africa rests on the quality of leaders being nurtured today,” Mr de Lima said.
He expressed the hope that participants would leave the event inspired, equipped and committed to making a difference by mentoring others, serving their communities and contributing to the creation of value-driven institutions.
“When people invest in people, they invest in the continent,” he added.
The virtual conference will feature a distinguished lineup of speakers and resource persons, including Dr Charles J. Buckman, Founder of the Charles Buckman Foundation; Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh, Founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach; Mohammed Saani Adams (Hajj), Director at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment; Ibrahim Kwame Asante, Founder of Significant International Training Systems (SITS); Ato Ulzen-Appiah, Director of GhanaThink Foundation; Rev. Albert Ocran, Technical Director of Springboard Road Show Foundation; and Dr James Owusu, CEO of Lyden Educational Consultancy, UK.
Other experts participating include Mr Peter Adetor, Team Lead at African Startups & SMEs in Export & Trade Secretariat (ASSETS); Sylvia Senu, Development Consultant; Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Programme Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa; and Josiah Kwesi Eyison, CVO and Innovation Strategist at iSpace Foundation.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Ms Emmaline Datey, CEO of ICS Africa, with WH Kobina Adomadzi Longdon, Developer and Chief Executive of TECHFARM Hub, serving as Master of Ceremonies.
Beyond the national celebration, the initiative will embark on regional mentorship tours to selected tertiary institutions and senior high schools in the Ashanti and Western regions to equip students with skills and guidance for personal and professional success.
The programme is supported by partners including GhanaThink Foundation, ICS Africa, UN Youth Association Ghana (UNYA-GH), Rotaract Ghana, Merit Accra, iSpace Foundation and other corporate organisations.
Organisers are encouraging individuals to register as mentors or mentees through the MentorXi platform as part of efforts to build a stronger culture of mentorship in Ghana.
The event will be streamed via Zoom on July 18, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
