Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been ranked as the fifth-best goalkeeper in the world in the latest FIFA Power Rankings for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a significant international recognition for Ghana's shot-stopper ahead of the global tournament.
The rankings, powered by Aramco, place Asare fifth globally with a rating of 7.52, making him the highest-ranked Ghanaian goalkeeper and one of only two African goalkeepers to feature in the top six.
Leading the rankings is Orlando Gill of Paraguay with a rating of 8.29, followed by Gregor Kobel of Switzerland (7.94), Alireza Beiranvand of Iran (7.69) and Diogo Costa of Portugal (7.63).
Benjamin Asare's impressive ranking places him ahead of several established international goalkeepers, including Jordan Pickford of England, who occupies eighth position with a rating of 7.29, despite moving up in the latest rankings.
Egypt's Mostafa Shoubir follows closely behind Asare in sixth place with 7.50, while Eloy Room of Curaçao is seventh with 7.45.
Rounding out the top ten are Vozinha of Cape Verde in ninth position with 7.29 and Mohammed Alowais of Saudi Arabia in tenth with 7.27.
Asare's inclusion among the world's elite goalkeepers highlights his growing reputation on the international stage and provides a major boost for Ghana as the Black Stars continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The latest rankings also underscore the increasing prominence of African goalkeepers, with both Ghana and Egypt represented among the world's top six performers.
