VIDEO: “I Watched Their Videos and Wanted to Show Something” – Marvin Senaya
Ghana’s emerging defensive talent, Marvin Senaya, has revealed the mindset behind his impressive debut performance against England, stating that meticulous preparation and personal ambition fuelled his standout display.
“I watched a lot of their videos, Gordon and Saka, and I wanted to show something today,” Senaya said after helping the Black Stars secure a hard-fought 0-0 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L clash.
Coming up against some of England’s most dangerous attacking threats, including Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka, the young defender delivered a composed and confident performance that belied his debut status. His ability to read the game, maintain positional discipline, and win key duels played a crucial role in Ghana’s resilient defensive effort.
Senaya admitted he was fully aware of the challenge ahead but embraced it as an opportunity to prove himself on the global stage.
“I know they are very good players. I studied them before the game because I wanted to respond and prove some things, and I think today I did that,” he added.
His performance has quickly sparked excitement among Ghanaian fans, many of whom are only just getting to know the defender. But for Senaya, this is only the beginning.
“I hope this is just the start. I want this tournament and this game to bring more in the future,” he said, hinting at greater ambitions with the national team.
Beyond the performance itself, Senaya spoke passionately about his decision to represent Ghana, describing it as a deeply personal and proud moment.
“To be honest, I am very, very proud to have chosen Ghana. It is the best choice for me. I discussed it with my family for a long time, and I am happy with the decision,” he said.
