Ghana Advances $50m Digital Acceleration Project
Ghana’s US$50 million Ghana Digital Acceleration Project has moved from the design stage into active procurement as the government intensifies efforts to expand digital infrastructure and modernise public services.
Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George disclosed this during the Government’s Accountability Series.
He said the World Bank-backed project was advancing last-mile connectivity to 270 government facilities, including 170 community ICT centres.
According to the minister, the project has reached the financial evaluation stage.
Procurement for the National Data Exchange Hub, which is intended to provide an integrated one-stop government service platform, is also progressing through international tender processes.
The modernisation of Ghana’s national data centres forms another component of the digital infrastructure programme.
Sam George said the government’s digital transformation agenda was focused on modernising public administration and improving citizens’ access to government services.
He said efforts were also being made to decentralise regulation and bring the work of the National Communications Authority closer to citizens.
The NCA has secured new office premises in Cape Coast and Wa, both of which are expected to become fully operational by October 2026.
The Minister said the investments formed part of a broader strategy to build a connected and resilient Ghana.
He stressed that digital transformation could not succeed without reliable infrastructure, data systems and accessible connectivity.
The project, he said, would therefore complement other initiatives aimed at expanding broadband access, developing digital skills, strengthening government platforms and building Ghana’s digital economy.
