Shamima Muslim Calls for Hybrid Broadcasting Systems
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has called for the development of resilient hybrid distribution systems that combine terrestrial, satellite and digital networks to expand access to broadcasting.
She said technological transformation should not result in underserved communities being excluded from access to information.
Speaking at the 2026 Broadcasters Conference with the theme ''Conference on AI, Cloud and Future Broadcasting'', Shamima Muslim identified resilient hybrid distribution systems as one of five practical priorities for the future of African broadcasting.
She said broadcasters should combine different distribution technologies while protecting access for underserved communities.
According to her, digital transformation should not focus solely on technology but must also consider affordability, infrastructure and access.
She also urged stakeholders to examine whether broadcasting infrastructure could be shared to reduce costs and improve sustainability.
Madam Shamima said strategic infrastructure sharing could free up resources for journalism, content development and innovation.
She stressed that the future of broadcasting required systems that were financially viable, technologically resilient and capable of serving diverse audiences.
