Telecel Ghana Secures Three 2.3 GHz Spectrum Lots for 5G Expansion
Telecel Ghana has secured three spectrum lots in the 2.3 GHz band from the National Communications Authority (NCA) to support its planned 5G rollout and expand mobile broadband capacity.
Telecel was awarded all three lots for which it applied following the NCA’s competitive licensing process covering the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz frequency bands.
The award was confirmed by the Director of External Affairs at Telecel Ghana, Komla Buami, who said the additional spectrum would enhance the company’s ability to expand its network and improve service quality for customers.
“This award is an important step in our preparations for the rollout of 5G. It will provide additional capacity to improve the customer experience and contribute to the continued growth of Ghana’s digital economy,” he said.
Mr Buami also welcomed the NCA’s broader efforts to rationalise spectrum resources and promote their efficient use within the telecommunications sector.
“We look forward to continued engagement with the Authority on spectrum rationalisation. A well-planned spectrum framework will support network investment, improve service quality and provide the capacity required to meet the country’s growing demand for mobile services,” he said.
A total of five lots were made available in the 2.3 GHz band, with Telecel Ghana applying for three and securing all three.
The assignment was subsequently completed in accordance with the provisions of the Request for Applications (RFA).
The latest award forms part of Ghana’s efforts to make additional spectrum available for mobile broadband services and accelerate the expansion of 5G connectivity.
For Telecel, the additional 2.3 GHz spectrum is expected to provide greater network capacity as the company prepares to introduce 5G services and responds to increasing demand for high-speed mobile connectivity.
