Ghana Trains 240 Civil Servants in Artificial Intelligence
A total of 240 civil servants have been trained in artificial intelligence literacy as Ghana accelerates efforts to build national capacity in emerging technologies.
Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George said the training formed part of the implementation of Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
Speaking during the Government’s Accountability Series, Sam George said Cabinet approved the National AI Strategy covering 2025 to 2035 in April 2026.
The strategy is built around eight strategic pillars and was developed in collaboration with several local and international partners.
The minister said Ghana subsequently published an AI Readiness Assessment Model with UNESCO and the European Union in June.
He also disclosed that the Ministry, in partnership with the NCA, GIZ, Ghana International School and Makers Place, organised a five-day AI robotics summer camp for 100 basic school students.
Forty per cent of participants in the camp were girls, reflecting efforts to encourage greater female participation in technology and artificial intelligence.
Sam George said the Ministry had also finalised its National AI Delivery Strategy Framework, with measurable indicators extending to 2035.
The government’s AI agenda, he said, was intended to ensure that artificial intelligence contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s economic and social development.
He stressed the importance of building national expertise while ensuring that AI development was supported by appropriate policy, regulation and responsible-use principles.
The Minister said Ghana’s approach would focus not only on technology adoption but also on developing the human capacity required to use AI effectively across government and the wider economy.
