Broadcasters Must Measure Digital Transformation by Public Impact – Shamima Muslim

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has challenged broadcasters to measure the success of digital transformation by its impact on audiences rather than technology deployment alone.

She said the industry should ask whether digital transformation was producing more trustworthy information, helping creators retain more value and expanding access to audiences on fairer terms.

Speaking at the 2026 Broadcaster Conference on the theme Conference on AI, Cloud and Future Broadcasting, Shamima Muslim said stakeholders needed to measure what actually changed for the people they served.

“Do the audience receive more trustworthy information? Do creators retain more value from their work?” she asked.

She said broadcasters should also examine whether Africa was reaching more audiences on fairer terms.

According to her, the success of transformation should be reflected in public trust, professional development, sustainable businesses and stronger content ownership.

She urged participants at the conference to identify specific partnerships, realistic timelines and practical solutions rather than limiting discussions to declarations.

Madam Shamima said broadcasters must remain focused on building an industry that responds to the needs of citizens while strengthening Africa’s position in the global digital economy.
