Gospel musician Perez Musik has thrown his support behind the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music production, describing it as a valuable creative tool while praising dancehall star Shatta Wale for embracing the technology responsibly.
Speaking in an interview, Perez Musik said AI has become an important part of his songwriting and production process, helping him develop ideas before heading into the recording studio.
According to him, he uses AI to create demos, experiment with melodies and organise musical ideas but insists the technology should never replace an artiste’s originality.
“AI is helping. It’s technology. It’s a tool. We can’t demonise it. You must learn how to use it,” he said.
Perez Musik explained that AI has significantly reduced the time spent on pre-production, allowing him to refine concepts before recording.
However, he expressed concern that some musicians have gone beyond using AI as a creative assistant and are relying on it to produce entire projects.
He singled out Shatta Wale’s latest African King album as an example of how the technology can be integrated into music without taking away an artiste’s identity.
According to him, the dancehall musician used AI creatively while ensuring his personality remained evident throughout the project.
“The way he incorporated AI was beautiful. He’s smart. His personality is still in it. He uses it where it’s necessary,” Perez Musik said.
He stressed that while AI is transforming music production, it should complement human creativity rather than replace it.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the global music industry, Perez Musik believes the future belongs to artistes who embrace technology while preserving the authenticity that makes their music unique.
