Shamima Muslim: AI Could Unlock Ghana’s Broadcasting Archives
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has highlighted artificial intelligence and cloud technology as tools that could help Ghanaian broadcasters unlock the value of their archives.
She said properly digitised and searchable archives could make decades of broadcast material more accessible to journalists, producers and audiences.
Speaking at the 2026 Broadcasters Conference under the theme Conference on AI, Cloud and Future Broadcasting, Shamima Muslim imagined a newsroom being able to retrieve a 10-year-old interview within minutes because its archive had been properly digitised and indexed.
She also said AI could help broadcasters translate programmes into local languages and distribute content across multiple platforms.
“Imagine a Ghanaian documentary produced in English and made accessible to audiences in several African languages,” she said.
Madam Shamima said emerging technologies could also allow small regional broadcasters to access production tools that previously required major studio investments.
However, she cautioned that technological opportunities must be accompanied by safeguards.
She said broadcasters remained responsible for the accuracy and integrity of content produced with the assistance of AI.
She therefore urged the industry to combine technological innovation with strong editorial standards.
