Church of Pentecost Elder Urges Believers to Live and Proclaim the Gospel with Purpose
An elder of the Church of Pentecost, Upper Room Assembly in the Mpoasei District of the Dansoman Area, Micheal Fosu, has called on Christians to embrace and actively live out the “new life” found in Christ, describing it as the ultimate transformation that must reflect in every aspect of a believer’s life.
Delivering a sermon on the theme “The Goal of the New Life for All” during Gospel Sunday, Elder Fosu emphasised that accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Saviour marks the beginning of a completely renewed identity.
Quoting Bible scripture from 2 Corinthians 5:17, he noted that “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here,” stressing that true Christianity is evidenced by a visible transformation in character and conduct.
According to him, the absence of this transformation often manifests in behaviours such as hatred, envy, anger, arrogance, selfishness and other destructive tendencies. He urged believers to examine their lives critically and align their actions with the values of Christ.
“If we truly have the life of Christ in us, then our homes, workplaces and communities must reflect love, joy, goodness and righteousness,” he stated.
Elder Fosu further highlighted that the new life in Christ is not meant to be kept private but must be shared with others. He described the message of salvation as "more precious than gold", urging Christians to see themselves as carriers of a life-giving message the world desperately needs.
“The purpose of the new life is to make people aware that there is life in God through Christ. If we have received this life, then we have something valuable to share,” he said.
He called on the entire church to take collective responsibility in spreading the gospel, insisting that evangelism should not be limited to pastors or church leaders but must involve every believer.
“The whole church must proclaim the new life. If everyone must hear the gospel, then every Christian must become a witness,” he emphasised.
Elder Fosu also underscored the importance of intentional and strategic evangelism, urging churches to adopt structured approaches in reaching out to people across different backgrounds.
“We must plan how we preach, who we are reaching, and how best to communicate the message so that no one is left out,” he noted.
He further challenged believers to “walk the gospel” through their actions, explaining that true faith must be demonstrated through good works and positive impact in society.
Drawing references from the early church, he reminded congregants that the disciples not only preached but lived the message, transforming lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.
“The early Christians turned the world upside down because they lived what they preached. Today, we must do the same,” he urged.
Elder Fosu concluded with a call for urgency, warning that the world is increasingly filled with challenges and distractions that draw people away from God.
“We must preach the new life now. The time is not tomorrow. Souls are being lost every day, and we must rise to our responsibility,” he said.
He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and committed to spreading the message of salvation to all people, regardless of background or status.
“Wherever you go, let people see Christ in you. Let your life speak the gospel,” he concluded.
