Sam George, French Ambassador Discuss Stronger Digital Cooperation
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has held discussions with the French Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime-Labille, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in Ghana’s telecommunications and digital technology sectors.
The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen collaboration in digital infrastructure and expand access to affordable and reliable connectivity for Ghanaians.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George stressed the need for digital solutions that reflect the economic realities of the Ghanaian population while improving access to data and broadcasting services.
He said expanding affordable connectivity remained critical to ensuring that more Ghanaians could participate meaningfully in the country’s growing digital economy.
The discussions also explored opportunities for increased foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ghana’s digital infrastructure sector.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a competitive and transparent business environment capable of attracting international investors while improving the quality and reliability of digital services.
He said stronger partnerships with international stakeholders could support investment in infrastructure and technology while helping Ghana accelerate its digital transformation agenda.
The two sides also exchanged views on challenges associated with digital disinformation and the need for stronger cooperation to promote a safer and more responsible digital environment.
Discussions also touched on potential collaboration ahead of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) scheduled for November.
The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for Ghana and its international partners to exchange ideas on internet governance, digital inclusion, cybersecurity, online safety and emerging technology issues.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to strengthen international partnerships in support of Ghana’s digital transformation.
Both sides expressed interest in deepening cooperation in areas that can expand connectivity, attract investment and ensure that the benefits of digital technology are accessible to a broader segment of the Ghanaian population.
