Eastern Youth Development Association Congratulates Mahama, Calls for Creation of New Region

The Eastern Youth Development Association (EYDA), led by its president, Joshua Asumeng Badu, has extended heartfelt congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama on his historic swearing-in for a second term in office.

The group also lauded the inauguration of Ghana’s first-ever female vice president, describing it as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey.

In a press release, Mr. Badu commended the president and his party for their hard-fought victory, emphasising the rigorous nationwide campaign that made their vision for Ghana resonate with citizens.

Acknowledging the formidable challenges ahead, EYDA urged the government to promptly tackle its mandate, particularly addressing the needs and aspirations of the youth.

“We acknowledge the huge task ahead of your government, which requires you to set the ball rolling without delay to meet the high expectations of the people, especially the youth,” the statement read.

The group also took the opportunity to remind the president of a petition they had submitted during the campaign period, advocating for the creation of a new region from the existing Eastern Region. EYDA believes such a move would significantly enhance development and leave a lasting legacy for the administration.

“May we seize this opportunity to remind you of a petition we presented in the run-up to the elections on the creation of another region out of the current Eastern Region so development is enhanced, as this could also be a feather in your cap?”

Quoting the President’s inaugural speech, Mr. Badu reaffirmed the association’s faith in the administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

“As you rightly put it in your inaugural speech, ‘You must not be set into perpetual pessimism.’ We remain optimistic that knowing the social contract you have signed with the good people of Ghana, you would deliver to the admiration of all so Ghana becomes the beacon of hope for all.”

The statement concluded with warm congratulations to President Mahama and the government, expressing hope for a prosperous and united Ghana under their leadership.
