IMF Commends Akufo-Addo for Strong Economic Leadership

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has expressed her admiration for the leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, praising his administration for laying a solid foundation for Ghana’s economic future.

In a letter dated January 8, 2025, Georgieva acknowledged the significant policies and reforms under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, noting that they have been crucial in stabilising the country’s economy.

The IMF boss highlighted the former president’s role in guiding Ghana through challenging times, including the global economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The policies and reforms during your administration have laid the groundwork for Ghana’s future,” Georgieva wrote, emphasising that Akufo-Addo’s efforts have positioned Ghana for future economic growth and stability.

Georgieva also praised the strong collaboration between the Ghanaian government and the IMF, particularly in addressing macroeconomic challenges such as inflation and public debt.
