Bawumia unites NAPO and Wontumi; issues resolved

It is now official that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, will be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running partner in the December 7 elections after being endorsed by the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This comes after the flagbearer completed the required consultations and Dr. Opoku Prempeh was approved by the NPP majority in parliament and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Prior to his running mate’s introduction to the party’s National Council on Sunday night, Dr. Bawumia met with Dr. Opoku Prempeh and the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, to resolve disagreements and devise a plan of action.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed on Friday, June 28, 2024, that the caucus fully supports Dr. Bawumia’s selection of Napo as his running mate.

He revealed that Dr. Bawumia met with the majority leadership to talk about his choice of running mate.

The party’s national council will get together shortly to make the final decision, according to Mr. Afenyo-Markin.

“Yes, our party’s leader and flagbearer had a lengthy conversation with the leaders of Parliament about the party’s future as we approach the 2024 elections.

“It was determined that our esteemed colleague, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, would be his preferred running mate. Additionally, he stated, “That is customarily done, and it would be respectful if the caucus were informed and involved in the decision-making process.”

“After that, I went ahead and involved the caucus, and thus far, the response has been favourable,” he continued. The majority of the caucus members back his decision. In other words, a national council meeting is required for it to be verified or made official.

It seems that everyone will agree on it, and there won’t be any issues, based on what he tells us. We also asked him what the President thought of it, and he responded rather favourably.

This indicates that the information has been reviewed by the relevant organs, and that everything is in place for our brother, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to accompany him in carrying the party’s flag in the 2024 elections.
