Canadian High Commissioner Visits Proposed Gomoa Special Economic Zone Site

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat, has paid a working visit to the proposed site of the Gomoa Special Economic Zone as discussions intensify over a potential Canadian partnership to support the project.

The visit was disclosed by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, who said it followed an earlier meeting held at the Canadian High Commission with a group of Canadian investors.

According to the MP, the discussions focused on exploring a strategic partnership between the Government of Canada and the Gomoa Special Economic Zone.

The proposed partnership is expected to mobilise Canadian investment, expertise and technology towards the development of the industrial zone.

Mr Obeng said the partnership is intended to support the transformation of the Gomoa Special Economic Zone into Africa’s largest industrial park.

He said the proposed facility is envisioned as a world-class hub for manufacturing, mineral processing, energy, logistics, innovation and international trade.

The MP described the High Commissioner’s visit as an important step in efforts to attract international investment and technical expertise to the project.

The engagement with Canadian investors and the subsequent visit to the proposed site are expected to provide an opportunity for further discussions on how Canadian capital, technology and expertise could contribute to the development of the zone.

The Gomoa Special Economic Zone is being positioned as a major industrial and investment hub, with the potential to create jobs, stimulate economic activity and strengthen Ghana’s capacity for manufacturing and value addition.

Mr Obeng expressed optimism about the potential partnership and its contribution to the long-term vision of developing the proposed industrial park into a globally competitive economic hub.
