One Million Coders Programme Hits 141,959 Registrations, Nearly 30,000 Active Learners
Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme has recorded 141,959 registered accounts, with nearly 30,000 learners actively engaged in training as of August 2, 2026.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, disclosed the figures during the Government’s Accountability Series.
He said the programme had also recorded almost 6,000 course completions, signalling growing interest in digital skills among young Ghanaians.
According to him, more than 30,000 learners had been reached through Coursera, over 10,000 through the Start to Code Alliance and almost 2,000 through the NetAccra Partnership.
Additional learners are undertaking courses through the Data Protection Commission, digital literacy, cybersecurity and data analytics tracks.
The minister said more than 25,000 participants were pursuing self-paced studies, while another 7,000 required centre-based support.
Cybersecurity currently leads the programme’s skills areas, with 8,570 learners, followed by data analytics, AI Essentials, AI Professionals and project management.
Mr George said the government had signed memoranda of understanding with 11 leading Ghanaian universities to integrate the One Million Coders certification into degree and diploma programmes.
The participating institutions include the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana Communication Technology University and the University of Cape Coast.
He said the government was also working with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to expand foundational digital skills training to senior high school students between the ages of 13 and 19.
The minister said monitoring data from June 1 to August 15 recorded 11,683 cumulative attendances across 118 reporting centres.
He, however, acknowledged that men continued to outnumber women in the programme.
He said the focus for the remainder of the year would be to convert registrations into course completions while narrowing the gender gap and improving accessibility for persons with disabilities.
