The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, played a pivotal role in de-escalating the situation. Through a series of phone engagements with local police, community leaders, and youth representatives, the IGP helped prevent further violence.

“The Inspector-General of Police worked on the phone with the regional police team to engage community leaders and the youth throughout the night to stabilise the situation. There have been no reprisal attacks or further escalation of the situation,” the statement read.

To ensure a thorough probe, a special investigation team has been dispatched from Accra. Reinforcements have also been sent to the community to maintain peace and order.

“A special investigation team from Accra has been sent to the area to investigate the incident, whilst a reinforcement team has also been sent to the community to help ensure that there is peace, security, law, and order,” the police noted.

The police confirmed that the deceased individuals were Muslims and assured the public that due process is being followed to release the bodies to their families for burial in line with Islamic customs.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain calm while investigations are underway.

“We urge the public to remain calm as the police continue to work to ensure law and order prevail,” the statement, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, concluded.
