Minority in Parliament vows to hold government accountable
The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, has pledged the minority’s readiness to ensure the current government remains transparent and accountable.
Speaking to the media after the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s 9th Parliament, Hon. Poku-Adusei underscored the critical oversight role of the minority caucus, even in the face of the NDC’s commanding majority in Parliament.
“We will not shy away from our responsibility to scrutinise the government’s policies and actions,” Hon. Poku-Adusei affirmed. “We will hold them to their promises, starting with H.E. John Mahama’s 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.”
The MP emphasised the importance of a united minority caucus in fostering transparency and ensuring the government delivers on its commitments to the people.
His remarks come as the new Parliament begins its legislative journey, with expectations of robust and constructive engagements between the majority and minority factions.
The inauguration of MPs-elect for the 9th Parliament was successfully completed, marking the start of a new era in Ghana’s governance.
The event retained key figures from the 8th Parliament, including Rt. Hon. Alban S. Bagbin as Speaker and Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiama (MP, Fomena) as 2nd Deputy Speaker. Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South, joins as the 1st Deputy Speaker.
This leadership team is expected to steer parliamentary activities with a focus on collaboration and democratic integrity.
In addition to the parliamentary inauguration, the swearing-in of the President and Vice President-elect was conducted without incident, a testament to the tireless work of the transition team and state protocol. The seamless events underscore Ghana’s commitment to peaceful democratic transitions.
