Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the court presided over by Ms. Anid Marful-Sau that the complainant, a driver residing in Opah, was approached by the accused and his accomplice while parked by the roadside at Shikpontele on December 4, 2023.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., the complainant had stopped to deliver money and provisions to his wife when he noticed a motorbike with two riders circling suspiciously near his parked Sprinter Benz bus.

The accused, who was seated as the pillion rider, allegedly retrieved an implement from his clothing, raising the complainant’s suspicions.

Acting quickly, the complainant drove his vehicle towards the motorbike, prompting the riders to flee into the darkness.

The complainant immediately alerted a police patrol team in the area, who pursued the suspects. Nunekpeku was arrested shortly afterward, found with a machete concealed in his T-shirt. His accomplice, Dickson, managed to escape on the motorbike.

During police interrogation, Nunekpeku provided only the first name of his accomplice but did not cooperate further in locating him. Following investigations, the accused was charged and arraigned before the court.

Nunekpeku, who denied the charges of robbery attempt and preparation to commit a crime, was granted bail. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend Dickson, the fugitive accomplice.
