Wenchi Methodist Hospital to Conduct Mass Burial for 28 Unclaimed Bodies

The Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies currently stored in its mortuary.

The bodies, which have been at the facility for almost three years, have caused significant congestion, affecting the hospital’s operations.

In an official statement signed by Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director Jimah Yakubu, the hospital revealed that the bodies have been occupying space in the mortuary for an extended period, with no success in identifying or claiming them despite several attempts to reach the public.

“It is for the information of the general public, especially families with missing persons, that the Environmental Health Unit of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and the management of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital are preparing to conduct a burial for 28 unidentified individuals,” the statement noted.

The hospital emphasised that the mass burial, which will take place from Thursday, January 23, 2025, to Friday, January 31, 2025, is necessary to decongest the mortuary and address the associated health and operational challenges.

The burial is set to be conducted after one week, allowing time for families to come forward for identification and collection of the bodies.

The hospital has urged concerned individuals or families to contact the facility before the deadline if they wish to claim the bodies.

The statement concluded with a call for the public to cooperate with the hospital and the assembly to ensure proper identification and dignified burial arrangements.

This move comes as part of efforts to maintain hygiene, manage space in the mortuary, and uphold public health standards within the region.
