A 30-year-old man, Kojo Esson, popularly known as Dee Jay, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Monday, February 4, 2025. Kojo reportedly lured the victim, who had just closed from school and was playing with her friends, by asking her to buy water for him.
Her mother, Sarah Lamptey, a trader at the Kasoa market, was not home at the time. After committing the act, Kojo handed the girl GH₵5.00, which she later gave to her mother upon her return.
Sarah Lamptey told Adom News that she became suspicious after noticing her daughter walking awkwardly. Out of concern, she questioned her about the money and checked her underwear, where she found blood stains. Upon further questioning, the young girl recounted the ordeal.
A medical examination confirmed that she had been defiled, prompting her mother to file a complaint with the police. Kojo was subsequently arrested and, during interrogation, admitted to the crime but blamed it on the “devil’s work.”
The suspect was arraigned before the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court on Thursday, where he was remanded into police custody for two weeks.
The case is expected to continue as authorities pursue justice for the young victim. The police have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and educate their children on personal safety to prevent such incidents.
