Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is “100 percent” confident the club followed all the right procedures in dealing with Thomas Partey, who is currently facing multiple rape and sexual assault charges.
Partey, 32, left Arsenal on June 30, 2025, at the end of his contract. Just four days later, on July 4, the Metropolitan Police formally charged the Ghanaian midfielder with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women. The alleged offences are reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
According to police, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three to a second woman, and the sexual assault to a third. Partey has denied all charges, with his legal team stating that he “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Arteta, speaking at a news conference in Singapore ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season clash against AC Milan, maintained that the club acted appropriately throughout the period of investigation.
“The club was very clear in its statement,” Arteta said. “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated, so I cannot comment on any of that.”
When pressed further on whether he believed the club handled the matter correctly amid concerns from fans, the Arsenal boss firmly responded: “100%, yes.”
The Metropolitan Police began investigating Partey in February 2022 following the initial report. Despite the ongoing case, the midfielder continued playing for Arsenal, making 35 Premier League appearances last season and scoring four goals. He also featured in 12 Champions League matches as the Gunners reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for £45 million, is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
