Over 6,000 Newly Recruited Nurses Paid, Urges Posted Medical Officers to Report to Work — Health Ministry
The Ministry of Health has confirmed that more than 6,000 newly recruited nurses across Ghana have now received their salaries, representing a significant portion of the 13,500 nurses recruited nationwide this year.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 3, the Ministry said all remaining administrative processes are being fast-tracked to ensure that every member of the 2025 cohort receives their outstanding payments without delay.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to the medical officers who have already reported to their assigned duty stations, describing their commitment as essential to strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.

However, it urged those yet to report to do so by Friday, December 12, 2025, stressing that early reporting is crucial for achieving an equitable distribution of health personnel, especially in underserved communities.
Addressing concerns about postings, the Ministry clarified that assignments are not meant to be “punitive” but are instead guided by the national goal of ensuring fair, balanced, and accessible healthcare services for all Ghanaians.
“Families and relatives of the newly posted medical officers are encouraged to support them in accepting and settling into their assigned postings, especially in the underserved areas,” the statement added.
To enhance retention, the Ministry appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to provide essential incentives, including accommodation, transportation support, and other basic amenities, particularly for those posted to remote areas.
It further emphasised that no changes will be made to the recent postings, reaffirming its stance on maintaining a balanced distribution of health professionals across districts.
The Ministry of Health reiterated its commitment to building a resilient and equitable health workforce capable of delivering high-quality healthcare to every part of the country.
