Nollywood actress Ini Edo has bravely opened up about her personal struggles with infertility, revealing that she turned to surrogacy after multiple failed attempts to carry a pregnancy.
In a recent episode of Young, Famous & African, the 42-year-old actress reflected on her difficult journey and the challenges she faced in her pursuit of motherhood.
Edo, who got married at 26 with hopes of having children by the age of 31, shared that her dreams were delayed by persistent fertility issues. Despite years of trying and facing numerous setbacks, she remained determined to become a mother.
“My journey is one that I have not really been wanting to talk about because it is personal. I went through surrogacy. I never thought I would be someone who would have fertility issues,” she said. “But I have had issues carrying pregnancies long-term. And it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to happen. So, this option came, and I took it.”
In 2023, after years of battling fertility challenges, Edo made the decision to pursue surrogacy as a way to fulfil her dream of becoming a mother. Although she was initially hesitant to make the decision public, Edo explained that it was the best path for her.
The actress’s personal life has been marked by her marriage to US-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008. However, the marriage ended in divorce in 2014, and since then, Edo has focused on her career and personal growth.
Edo’s candidness about her surrogacy journey sheds light on the emotional and physical toll fertility struggles can take and serves as an inspiration to many who are going through similar challenges.
