Rachel Appoh, former Deputy Minister of Gender and Children Protection, has congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on its decisive victory in the 2024 general elections, describing the win as a result of the party’s unity and dedication.
In a heartfelt message shared on her social media platforms, the former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central celebrated President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for their success in the December 7 elections.
Rachel Appoh praised John Mahama’s exceptional leadership during the campaign, calling his commitment to Ghanaians “inspiring, infectious, and worth emulating.”
She emphasised that the energy and dedication exhibited during the elections should carry into governance, positioning the NDC to deliver transformative leadership under the Fourth Republic.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Your leadership and dedication to the people of Ghana are truly inspiring,” she wrote.
Appoh commended the tireless efforts of NDC members, particularly those in Gomoa Central.
She expressed gratitude to regional, constituency, and branch executives, as well as party sympathisers, for their unwavering commitment.
She also recognised Kwame Deen Yawson, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Gomoa Central, acknowledging his hard work despite an unfavourable outcome.
Additionally, she congratulated independent candidate Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng on winning the Gomoa Central seat, extending her best wishes for his tenure.
Despite facing personal setbacks, including two motor accidents that prevented her from contesting the NDC primaries, Rachel Appoh actively campaigned across the country, particularly in the Central Region.
She thanked her family and close associates for their support during her recovery, which allowed her to continue contributing to the party’s success.
The NDC secured a commanding win in the 2024 presidential race, with John Mahama earning 56.55% of the valid votes cast. His closest rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, received 41.61%.
In the parliamentary elections, the NDC claimed more than two-thirds of the seats, winning over 180 of the 276 constituencies.
Rachel Appoh expressed optimism about the NDC’s governance, urging the party to replicate the determination and unity that secured its victory.
She highlighted the potential for the Mahama-led administration to deliver exceptional governance that could define the Fourth Republic.
Her message underscores the widespread enthusiasm among NDC supporters as the party prepares to implement its agenda and strengthen Ghana’s democratic and socio-economic landscape.
