The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a formal notice to Multichoice Ghana Limited, operators of DStv, regarding its intent to suspend the company’s authorisation to operate its Subscription Management Service for Satellite Television Broadcasting in Ghana.
This regulatory action, announced on Thursday, August 7, 2025, follows a ministerial directive from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, who has repeatedly accused Multichoice Ghana of implementing unjust and exorbitant pricing that exploits Ghanaian consumers.
The minister’s dissatisfaction stems from DStv’s current pricing model, which he described as “insensitive and exploitative,” especially amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges. He emphasised that Ghanaian subscribers are paying far more than consumers in other African markets for similar services.

“We will not allow any service provider to exploit Ghanaians under the guise of market conditions,” Hon. Sam George stated earlier. “Regulatory enforcement is non-negotiable when the public interest is at stake.”
Multichoice Ghana, in a statement issued Sunday, August 3, called the minister’s directive “regrettable” and defended its pricing structure, saying it reflects operational realities and the rising cost of content acquisition and satellite infrastructure.
The company further argued that any additional reductions would be “commercially unfeasible” and could threaten its ability to continue operations in the country.
Responding to the impasse, the NCA invoked Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), stating that Multichoice Ghana’s pricing model is “inimical to the public interest.”
Per the law, the NCA has granted the company a 30-day window to respond. During this period, Multichoice Ghana can submit its views, provide remedial actions, or formally object to the suspension notice.
“Multichoice Ghana has thirty (30) days within which to respond, take remedial action, or present a written statement of objections,” the NCA’s notice read.
