The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has invested €1.5 million in specialised equipment to establish a security printing press as part of efforts to expand its operations and compete in the printing of sensitive documents, including chequebooks and passports.

Managing Director of GPCL, Nana Kwesi Boaitey, disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, November 2, 2026.

He said the investment forms part of the company's strategy to complete its printing infrastructure following the establishment of a digital press alongside its existing offset printing facilities.

According to him, the equipment purchased with the €1.5 million investment is expected to arrive in Ghana during November to pave the way for the commencement of the security press project.

“This year, the focus of the company turned to establishing what ultimately will be our security press. Because if you know printing well, you'll see that after we have established a digital press in addition to the offsets, what was left was a security press,” he explained.

Mr. Boaitey said the new facility would enable GPCL to explore opportunities in the specialised printing market, particularly the production of chequebooks and passports.

“With that security press, we should be able to even compete in the areas of the printing of chequebooks and maybe passports,” he stated.

He described the investment as part of a broader effort to strengthen the company's capacity and position it to compete in areas with significant business potential.

The managing director said the company was making deliberate investments in its operations with the expectation of expanding its market reach and improving its commercial performance.
