Nvidia, xAI Join AI Infrastructure Partnership to Bolster U.S. AI Expansion

Nvidia and Elon Musk’s xAI have officially joined the AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), a consortium backed by Microsoft, investment fund MGX, and BlackRock, as part of efforts to expand artificial intelligence capabilities in the U.S.

The partnership, initially launched last year, aims to invest over $30 billion in AI-related infrastructure, focusing on the development of data centres and energy solutions essential for supporting AI applications like ChatGPT.

This announcement follows the launch of Stargate, a private-sector AI initiative backed by SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle, which aims to mobilise up to $500 billion in funding.

AIP has already secured $100 billion for immediate deployment, with additional funding expected over the next four years. Nvidia, which has played an advisory role since the group’s formation, will continue in that capacity.

Given the massive computational power required to train AI models, tech companies are scaling up their investment in specialised data centres. AIP has been actively raising funds from investors, corporations, and asset owners, with a goal to reach $100 billion, including debt financing.

“AIP has attracted significant capital and partner interest since its inception in September,” the group said in a statement, though it did not disclose the total amount raised.

The partnership has also added GE Vernova and utility giant NextEra Energy, which will help optimise energy supply chains and improve efficiency in AI-powered data centres.

AIP’s investments will primarily focus on the U.S. and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations, ensuring that AI infrastructure development remains a priority in leading global economies.
