Telecommunications giant MTN Group has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation as it participates in MWC Kigali 2025, Africa’s premier technology gathering, taking place from 21 to 23 October 2025 at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda.
The annual event, hosted by the GSMA, brings together top decision-makers from government, industry, and technology sectors to explore ways to unlock the power of digital innovation for inclusive growth across the continent. As a founding partner, MTN says its involvement reflects its long-standing commitment to building future-ready networks and platforms that deliver value today while advancing technologies that will shape Africa’s tomorrow.

The keynote will examine Africa’s digital evolution at a pivotal moment, with unique mobile subscribers projected to surpass 700 million by 2030. Discussions will explore both opportunities and persistent challenges, including closing the usage gap, expanding broadband access, and harnessing the rise of 5G, fintech, and generative AI to accelerate development.
Beyond the keynote, MTN executives will feature in high-level panels and roundtables, sharing insights on the continent’s digital trajectory, infrastructure investment, fintech adoption, AI innovation, and online safety. These sessions aim to shape strategies and partnerships critical for Africa’s connected future.
MTN’s exhibition stand will offer visitors an immersive experience that unifies its digital platform ecosystem with live technology demonstrations. At the core of the showcase are three flagship platforms:
- MoMo – Enabling financial inclusion and empowering communities through mobile money solutions.
- Bayobab – Strengthening continental infrastructure and connectivity.
- Chenosis – Supporting developers with open APIs to drive innovation.
The stand will also spotlight the MTN Skills Academy, a capacity-building initiative designed to equip Africa’s youth with digital and entrepreneurial skills. So far, the platform has attracted over 228,000 subscribers, completing 97,000+ learning activities, including courses and career guidance. This aligns with MTN’s mission to nurture Africa’s digital talent pipeline and create pathways to employment.
In collaboration with Ericsson, MTN will present cutting-edge 5G-enabled applications, highlighting the power of real-time, reliable connectivity:
- HADO, an augmented reality game showcased in Africa for the first time, will demonstrate low-latency capabilities for interactive learning, remote clinical support, and entertainment.
- A 5G-enabled robotic dog will illustrate how connected technologies can improve safety and operational efficiency in industries such as mining, utilities, and energy.
- Ray-Ban Displaying smart glasses with neural gesture control will point to future possibilities in accessibility, workforce productivity, and digital interaction.
These demonstrations will underline how 5G can transform education, health, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing, boosting productivity and access to essential services across the continent.
MTN has invited partners, visitors, and media to experience its demonstrations first-hand and explore the innovations powering Africa’s digital transformation.
“MWC Kigali provides an important platform for Africa’s leaders, innovators and partners to engage on the continent’s digital economy, demonstrate progress, and shape the investments and innovations needed for the future,” MTN said.
