Mark Zuckerberg Sues Mark Zuckerberg Over Impersonation Confusion

In a case that has quickly gone viral, an Indiana bankruptcy attorney named Mark S. Zuckerberg has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms Inc., accusing the company of negligence after repeatedly suspending his Facebook and Instagram accounts for “impersonating” its CEO and namesake, Mark E. Zuckerberg.

The lawsuit, filed in Marion Superior Court, outlines years of frustrating account suspensions that disrupted both his personal life and his law practice. Between 2022 and 2025, Zuckerberg says his personal Facebook profile was disabled nine times, while his firm’s professional page was shut down five times. He claims he lost nearly $11,000 in advertising spend during the repeated shutdowns.

Zuckerberg argues that Meta’s failure to distinguish between legitimate users who happen to share the same name and imposters amounts to both negligence and breach of contract. He likened the situation to “buying a billboard and then having someone cover it with a sheet”, saying his firm’s ability to reach clients was directly undermined by Meta’s actions.

Meta eventually reinstated his accounts after admitting the suspensions were made “in error”. But the Indiana attorney is pressing ahead with the case, insisting that the repeated disruptions harmed his business and reputation.

The irony of “Mark Zuckerberg suing Mark Zuckerberg” has captivated social media, sparking jokes and memes across platforms. The lawyer himself has leaned into the humour, quipping, “If the other Mark Zuckerberg wants to apologise in person—or maybe invite me onto his yacht—I’d accept.”
