Ghanaian broadcaster Serwaa Amihere has revealed the depths of her emotional struggle following the circulation of an intimate video purportedly involving her last year.
“I was depressed and crying at home that day,” Serwaa shared during the Ignite Youth Empowerment Thanksgiving Service. The emotional toll left her isolated, but a kind gesture from her close friend, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, brought solace.
“She came and said, ‘Let’s go and buy ice cream.’ I wasn’t talking to anyone, but she picked me up, took me to Osu, and bought me a big cup of ice cream. She told me, ‘Today, eat all the ice cream you can.’ That ride did me a lot of good,” Serwaa recounted, expressing immense gratitude to Obuobia for her support.
The video, which surfaced in April 2024, sparked a media frenzy and prompted an investigation by Serwaa’s employer, EIB Network. The network cleared her of any wrongdoing in a statement released in July and confirmed criminal actions against individuals accused of sharing the video.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Serwaa advised young people to be mindful of their decisions. “Be extremely careful about the decisions you make, because years later, they’ll come back and bite you really hard in the face. That’s exactly what happened to me.”
