The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has welcomed Simon Madjie as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), following the sudden reassignment of Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong. Dr. Brempong, who served for just two weeks, has been reassigned to a yet-to-be-disclosed role at Jubilee House, the seat of government.
Her swift reassignment has raised questions, as no official explanation has been provided. However, sources suggest that her new position is a strategic one within the government.
Simon Madjie brings extensive experience in trade facilitation, investment promotion, and legal affairs. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Executive Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce, Ghana (AmCham), where he played a key role in fostering trade and investment between Ghana and the United States.

Madjie is a lawyer with expertise in international trade law and investment facilitation. He holds a master’s degree in international trade law from the University of Turin and has worked closely with both Ghanaian and U.S. government officials to strengthen economic partnerships.
As the Executive Secretary of AmCham Ghana, he spearheaded initiatives such as the AfCFTA Resource Centre, which provides guidance to international businesses on Africa’s continental free trade agreement.
He was also the convener of the Distinguished Speaker Series on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)—a high-level platform that engages global investors on Ghana’s business climate.
In addition to his work in Ghana, Madjie has contributed to the establishment of American Chambers of Commerce in Ethiopia, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, and The Gambia. His expertise in foreign investment was recognised when he served as a judge for the 2022 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Africa Digital Competition, which identified top African tech startups.
With Simon Madjie at the helm, expectations are high for GIPC’s role in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Ghana. His extensive background in international trade and investment is expected to enhance Ghana’s positioning as a competitive investment hub in Africa.
Meanwhile, as speculation continues over Dr. Brempong’s reassignment, analysts are keen to see how the leadership change will impact GIPC’s policies and Ghana’s overall investment landscape.
