Concentrix Plans to Recruit 6,000 More Workers in Ghana – Sam George
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, says business process outsourcing company Concentrix has indicated plans to recruit about 6,000 additional workers as it expands its operations in Ghana.
He said the development could create employment opportunities for participants in the government’s One Million Coders Programme, provided their training matches the skills required by the company.
Sam George disclosed this during an interaction with students at the Kwadaso Regional Information Centre in the Ashanti Region, where he discussed plans to connect digital skills training with employment opportunities.
He explained that the ministry was engaging businesses to understand their recruitment needs and identify the courses that could prepare trainees for available jobs.
“We’re working with a number of institutions, like BOSA, the Business Outsourcing Association of Ghana, where we’re trying to bring in BPO jobs,” he said.
He cited Concentrix and Teleperformance as examples of companies whose recruitment activities could offer opportunities for people with relevant digital skills.
According to the minister, Teleperformance had recruited an additional 1,500 workers, mainly for data annotation and data entry roles, while Concentrix had expressed interest in recruiting about 6,000 more workers.
Hon. Sam George said the ministry wanted to align the One Million Coders Programme with the specific skills required by such employers rather than train participants without a clear understanding of industry demand.
“The question then becomes, what kind of skill set does Concentrix want? And then we offer that training on the One Million Coders so that the people who take those trainings are offered to Concentrix,” he stated.
He cautioned that completing only a beginner-level course might not be sufficient for some positions, urging participants to continue to the intermediate and advanced levels.
The minister said the approach was part of efforts to improve the programme’s employment outcomes and help trainees gain skills that respond to the needs of businesses.
The interaction took place during Mr George’s working tour of the Ashanti Region to inspect programme centres and engage participants about their experiences and concerns.
