Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has vowed to tackle the infrastructure deficits in Ghana’s hospitality industry to attract more visitors and enhance national revenue.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22, 2025, Ms. Gomashie expressed concern over the state of the sector, which has led many Ghanaians to seek tourism opportunities abroad.
“This is an unending discussion, especially where hotel rates are concerned. Even hotels with franchises in other countries tend to be very high, comparatively,” she stated.
She acknowledged the urgent need for improved facilities to meet growing domestic and international demand and pledged to collaborate with the private sector to address these gaps.
“I think that everybody and anyone listening to me who is willing to engage with the private sector in Ghana or out of Ghana to ensure that we improve our infrastructure capacities, you’re welcome to engage me after the vetting. If I get the nod, this is an issue that we must deal with,” she added.
Ms. Gomashie emphasised that the lack of adequate infrastructure diminishes the country’s potential to generate significant revenue from tourism and hospitality. She also hinted at plans to engage the Finance Ministry to secure resources for addressing these challenges.
