The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana have expressed appreciation to the government and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for the recent reduction in fuel prices, describing the move as a significant relief to drivers and transport owners across the country.
In a press release, the union said the reduction in fuel prices has led to a noticeable decrease in operational costs, easing the financial burden on commercial drivers and creating an opportunity to provide more affordable transport services to the public.
“We, the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana, extend our gratitude to the government and the National Petroleum Authority for the reduction in fuel prices. This move has significantly reduced our operational costs, and we appreciate the effort,” the statement said.

Despite welcoming the development, the union raised concerns about the conduct of some drivers who continue to charge unapproved transport fares, a practice it said undermines the efforts of law-abiding operators and erodes public trust in the transport sector.
The Commercial Transport Operators therefore called on the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as the Ghana Police Service, to support efforts to enforce approved fare structures and bring offending drivers to book.
The union specifically urged authorities to ensure strict enforcement of approved fares, discipline drivers who flout fare regulations, and support transport operators in maintaining a fair, orderly, and well-regulated transport system.
According to the union, effective enforcement will not only protect passengers from exploitation but also ensure fairness among operators who comply with the rules.
Reaffirming their commitment to the public, the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana pledged to continue providing quality, safe, and affordable transport services nationwide.
“We remain committed to delivering reliable and affordable transport services to the public and will continue to work with relevant authorities to uphold standards within the sector,” the statement concluded.
The union expressed hope that collaboration between transport operators, local authorities, and law enforcement agencies will help sustain the benefits of the fuel price reduction and promote discipline across the commercial transport industry.
