Data Protection Commission, Free Zones Authority Partner to Enforce Data Protection Compliance in Business Enclaves
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) to discuss strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing data protection compliance within the country’s Free Zones enclave.
The engagement created an avenue for both institutions to explore inter-agency partnership, knowledge sharing, and regulatory alignment, ensuring that businesses operating under the GFZA meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
The DPC commended the GFZA for its openness to collaboration and expressed readiness to provide technical support to institutions under the Authority’s oversight. Officials emphasized that stronger cooperation would foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and privacy in data handling, particularly within export-driven enterprises.

The discussions also touched on the importance of building institutional capacity to manage sensitive data, safeguarding business operations while protecting the rights of individuals whose information is processed.
The move forms part of the Commission’s broader agenda to deepen compliance awareness and ensure that all organizations operating in Ghana adhere to international best practices in data governance.
