Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Leaked Before Launch

Confidential files revealing hundreds of components, supplier identities and internal photographs of Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro have reportedly been leaked onto the dark web following a cyberattack on Indian manufacturing partner Tata Electronics, exposing one of the company's most closely guarded product development secrets just months before the expected launch.

The breach, linked to a ransomware attack on Tata Electronics, has exposed sensitive documents detailing the supply chain behind Apple's next-generation flagship smartphone, including component lists, supplier information, engineering documentation and images believed to show the iPhone 18 Pro undergoing durability testing.

According to documents reviewed by Reuters and a source familiar with the matter, the leaked files include detailed maps linking specific suppliers to critical components inside the iPhone 18 Pro, information Apple has traditionally kept highly confidential.

The exposed documents reportedly identify suppliers for key hardware, including the device's main circuit board chips, battery systems, camera modules and numerous internal components expected to feature in the new flagship smartphone.

Industry observers say the leak could provide competitors, counterfeit manufacturers and suppliers with unprecedented insight into Apple's procurement strategy, manufacturing relationships and potential supply chain vulnerabilities.

The leaked files reportedly contain information covering hundreds of individual parts expected to be used in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

The documents also reveal where Apple relies on multiple suppliers for certain components and where it depends on only a handful of manufacturers, potentially exposing strategic procurement decisions that normally remain hidden from the public.

A source familiar with the documents said Apple considers such supplier mapping highly sensitive because the company deliberately avoids disclosing which manufacturers produce specific components, even though it publishes an annual supplier responsibility report listing companies in its supply chain.

Several of the leaked documents reportedly carry Apple's internal "Confidential" markings alongside internal project code names consistent with the iPhone 18 Pro programme.

Among the leaked material are photographs believed to show the iPhone 18 Pro during drop-testing at a Tata Electronics facility earlier this year.

The images reportedly depict a grey, slab-style smartphone featuring Apple's signature triple rear camera system and the company's logo.

Although Reuters said it could not independently verify the exact model shown in the photographs, a source familiar with the leak confirmed they are believed to be iPhone 18 Pro devices undergoing internal testing before commercial production.

The leak comes as Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.

The breach represents a significant setback for Tata Electronics, which has rapidly become one of Apple's most important manufacturing partners outside China.

Tata plays a dual role within Apple's global supply chain, manufacturing components while also assembling iPhones for international markets.

Apple's increasing reliance on India forms part of its broader strategy to diversify production beyond China, with the country emerging as one of the fastest-growing electronics manufacturing hubs globally.

According to market research firm Counterpoint, India is expected to produce approximately 26 per cent of the world's iPhones in 2026, a dramatic increase from just 6 per cent four years ago.

The expansion has also become a cornerstone of the Indian government's ambition to establish the country as a global electronics manufacturing powerhouse.

Reuters previously reported that more than 200,000 files were stolen during the cyberattack on Tata Electronics and later published by the ransomware group World Leaks.

The broader data dump reportedly also included documents relating to older iPhone designs as well as files connected to Tesla, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Qualcomm, all of which have commercial relationships with Tata Electronics.

Reuters noted that it has not independently verified the authenticity of all the leaked files.

Apple and Tata Electronics did not respond to requests for comment regarding the latest disclosures.

However, Reuters previously reported that Apple is working closely with Tata to investigate the incident and strengthen long-term cybersecurity protections.

Tata Electronics has reportedly restricted employee access to sensitive internal systems while commissioning an international cybersecurity consultancy to conduct a forensic investigation into the breach.

The exposure has heightened concerns across the technology industry about cybersecurity risks facing increasingly complex global supply chains.

Unlike previous product leaks that typically reveal cosmetic details, the latest breach potentially exposes Apple's supplier ecosystem, engineering processes and procurement strategy, information regarded as commercially valuable within the semiconductor and consumer electronics industries.

The incident also arrives during a challenging period for Apple after the company recently increased prices for selected iPads and MacBooks, citing sharply rising memory and storage chip costs.

Analysts have also suggested that iPhone prices could increase later this year as component costs continue to rise amid growing global demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

If verified, the Tata Electronics breach would rank among the most significant supply chain-related information leaks involving Apple in recent years, potentially reshaping discussions around manufacturing security as the company continues expanding production in India.
