Annoh-Dompreh Pushes for Soil Fertility and Factory Laws at Pan-African Parliament

Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has urged the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) to adopt two landmark policies aimed at advancing sustainable development across the continent.

Delivering his remarks at the PAP plenary after being sworn in for a second term, Annoh-Dompreh proposed the introduction of a model law on soil fertility and a model law on factories in Africa, stressing the urgent need for climate-smart agriculture and responsible industrialisation.

“Farmers are not just recipients of policy but key stakeholders with practical knowledge,” he said, calling for inclusive policymaking that prioritises soil health, curbs the overuse of agrochemicals, and promotes organic farming practices. He further emphasised the importance of water conservation and carbon sequestration in combating the effects of climate change on agriculture.

Turning to industrial growth, the MP called for legislation that would guide the siting of factories, enforce environmental safeguards, and shield farmlands from reckless industrial encroachment.

“As we pursue growth, we must do so without compromising the environment or the food systems that sustain our people,” he noted.

His advocacy aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, reinforcing his commitment to green growth and sustainable livelihoods across the continent.
