The Managing Director of the State Housing Company (SHC), Mr John Bawah, has dismissed widespread misconceptions that acquiring a home from the company requires political connections or influence.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Mr Bawah emphasised that SHC houses are open to all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation or social status.
“Owning a house from SHC does not require knowing any politician. Our houses are available to every Ghanaian who applies and goes through the proper process,” he stated.

He explained that the company operates an open and transparent home acquisition system, where any interested individual can apply and complete the necessary payment or financing arrangements through official channels.
Mr Bawah further highlighted SHC’s commitment to making homeownership affordable, revealing that the company’s mortgage desk provides support to prospective buyers who need help arranging financing through SHC’s partner banks.
“We have set up a mortgage desk to assist anyone facing challenges in financing their home purchase. We work closely with partner banks to make homeownership easier and more accessible,” he noted.
The SHC boss also announced a major reform under his tenure—the elimination of price fluctuations between the time of acquisition and final payment.
“We have ended the old practice where house prices changed midway through payment. Our customers can now be assured of price stability and fairness,” Mr Bawah said.
He reaffirmed that SHC’s goal remains to deliver affordable, quality housing and to build trust with the public through transparency and consistency in all its operations.
