VIDEO: Tamale Central in Mourning as MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed Dies in Helicopter Crash

The Tamale Central constituency has been plunged into deep grief following the death of its Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

The tragedy, which occurred on 6th August 2025 in the Adansi Akrofuom District, claimed the lives of eight people, including Ghana’s Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and several other senior officials.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, announcing the heartbreaking news at a press conference, described the incident as a national tragedy and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast until further notice in honour of the deceased.

In Tamale Central, mourners gathered in shock and disbelief as word spread of the MP’s death. Footage from the constituency shows scores of residents—some openly weeping, others chanting prayers—reflecting on Murtala Mohammed’s years of public service and dedication to his constituents.

Many residents spoke of the late minister’s approachability and tireless advocacy for development in the area, saying his death has left a void that will be difficult to fill.

The government has extended condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
