“We are bedevilled with the chieftaincy crisis in Bawku, so we want to see to it that we negotiate with our colleagues,” Atanga stated.

He highlighted his rapport with the North East Regional Minister-designate as an opportunity to coordinate efforts in addressing the conflict.

“Peace is a prerequisite for development. If we want to deal with poverty levels, it is better to also handle the security issues and ensure that there is peace,” he added.

Beyond security concerns, Atanga emphasised the urgent need to address economic challenges in the Upper East Region, one of Ghana’s poorest regions.

He outlined plans to mobilise resources and initiate projects aimed at creating employment opportunities for the youth.

“Upper East is among the poorest regions in the country, and what we need to do is to be able to mobilise our people and solicit support that will bring projects and create employment for the youth. That will go a long way to solve the problems of the Upper East,” he noted.

Atanga’s nomination by President John Dramani Mahama comes as part of efforts to build a team of regional ministers to drive sustainable development across Ghana.

He expressed optimism that his leadership would bring meaningful change to the Upper East Region, addressing both its security and economic challenges.
