Police Intercept 1,054 Vehicles in Greater Accra Over Illegal Sirens, Strobe Lights
The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide operation to clamp down on the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights and illegal vehicle modifications.
The enforcement exercise, according to the police, is aimed at promoting compliance with road traffic regulations and addressing practices that compromise road safety and discipline among motorists.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 21, the Service said the operation targets vehicles fitted with unauthorised devices, including improvised modifications, illegal horns, sirens, strobe lights and beacon lights.
The police explained that drivers found violating the regulations were educated on the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations, while the illegal devices and modifications were removed and confiscated for further action.
Nationwide, the Service disclosed that a total of 4,627 vehicles have been intercepted since the exercise commenced on June 15, 2026.
The police said the operation forms part of broader efforts to enforce road safety measures, promote responsible driving practices and ensure motorists comply with existing traffic laws.
The service assured the public that the exercise will continue across the country, adding that further enforcement actions will be taken against persons who disregard the regulations.
