Otumfuo Invites President Mahama to Final Funeral Rites of Late Asantehemaa

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally invited President John Dramani Mahama to attend the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

A statement from the Presidency said the royal funeral will be held from September 15 to 18, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The invitation was delivered on Monday by a high-powered delegation led by Amoamanhene Nana Agyenim Boateng during a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Presidency in Accra.

President Mahama expressed his deep condolences to the Asantehene and the people of Asanteman, describing the passing of the Asantehemaa as an “immense loss”. He assured the delegation of his strong commitment to attend the funeral to pay his final respects.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98, was celebrated as the longest-serving Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom. Her death has been described as the end of an era, with widespread tributes highlighting her influence and legacy within Asanteman and beyond.

The funeral is expected to draw dignitaries from across Ghana and abroad, underscoring her stature as a revered figure in Ghanaian chieftaincy and culture.
