Tensions have flared in Accra following the demolition of a warehouse under construction along the Spintex Road, believed to be owned by prominent businessman Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.
Three top officials of the McDan Group were arrested by National Security operatives shortly after the incident, which unfolded at a site that has since been declared a “National Security Zone.”
Details surrounding the demolition remain murky, but eyewitness reports suggest that National Security operatives, accompanied by armed military personnel, stormed the premises before the structure was brought down. No official demolition order has yet been made public.

The situation escalated further on Wednesday when military personnel reportedly assaulted a civilian who was speaking to the media. Eyewitness footage shows the man being attacked while granting an interview to a JoyNews reporter.
Adding to the growing unease, JoyNews journalist Carlos Calony was also detained by National Security operatives while covering the aftermath. The reasons for his arrest remain unknown, prompting widespread concern among media and human rights groups.
The arrest of McDan Group officials and the classification of the area as a National Security Zone have raised serious questions about due process, transparency, and accountability. There has been no formal communication from the National Security Secretariat or the Ministry of National Security on the legal basis for the operation.
Observers have pointed to increasing cases of executive overreach and impunity, with calls mounting for an independent investigation into the demolition, the arrests, and the alleged assault on civilians and journalists.
The McDan Group is yet to issue a public statement, but sources close to the company indicate that legal action is being considered.
Meanwhile, access to the site remains restricted, as National Security personnel continue to guard the area.
