Kufuor Mourns Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed, 6 Others Killed in Helicopter Crash

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed profound sorrow following the deaths of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others who perished in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement, the former president said he was “shocked” by the tragedy, describing it as a national loss and a devastating blow to Ghana.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who perished in this tragic incident,” Mr Kufuor said.
“May we honour their memory by striving for compassion, unity and common purpose in serving our nation, Ghana.”

Mr Kufuor extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, and all Ghanaians mourning the loss. He called on the nation to unite in grief and seek divine comfort during this period of mourning.

The fatal crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District on August 6, claimed the lives of eight individuals — a mix of senior government officials and Ghana Armed Forces personnel. The delegation were travelling to Obuasi on an official assignment when their Ghana Air Force Z‑9 helicopter went off radar and crashed in a forested area.

Military and emergency teams later recovered the remains of all victims, with the government directing that national flags fly at half‑mast in their honour until further notice.
