Kennedy Agyapong Invested $5 Million In My Business Without Any Contractual Agreement- Afenyo Markin

The Minority Leader in Parliament and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has recounted his longstanding relationship with former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, highlighting financial support and joint community projects.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, February 16, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said Kennedy Agyapong invested $5 million in his business without any contractual agreement, describing it as a personal risk taken out of trust and friendship.

The MP addressed the attention Kennedy Agyapong received after polling 644 votes in the NPP presidential primary, compared to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 79 votes. Some supporters suggested that even though Afenyo-Markin did not publicly campaign for Kennedy Agyapong, he played a role in his success within his constituency.

He explained that due to several initiatives and support provided to constituents over the years, Mr Agyapong’s large margin of victory was not surprising.

“When my business ran down, Kennedy gave me $5 million; we didn’t sign any agreement. He took a risk on me by giving me that money. We’re more than a family; there’s a history to it. It’s not right to cut the relationship. It’s a relationship we have. If he won in Winneba, so what? People should stop it; we have moved past that,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin added that Kennedy also provided vehicles to support his constituency.

He further disclosed plans to construct an ICT facility in Kennedy Agyapong’s honour, a project conceived five years ago, emphasising their continued collaboration and mutual respect.

“I’m constructing an ICT facility, which, being named after him, was conceived five years ago; it’s a big project,” he said.
